3/22/01 - Law Firm Spin-off Trend: It seems that a few law firms have figured out that their corporate clients have a need for better technology, and some of them are stepping up to deliver it, usually through separate technology companies that they are spinning off. ABA Journal Article. Law.com Article. LawMarketing Article. Holland & Hart has created a company called CaseSHARE Systems. They are offering Internet-based systems for managing complex cases and deals and workflow management systems for such things as advertising review and management of a company's labor cases. They say they can also help you set up systems to give you a paperless office. This looks very interesting. Cincinnati's Dinsmore & Shohl in Cincinnati has created DinsNet Technologies, although their focus does not seem to be specifically directed to the needs of corporate clients. Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which has long been known as a technologically innovative firm, has spun off FirmLogic, with even greater ambitions than CaseShare. The firm has been on an acquisition binge, buying up several legal technology companies and consulting groups recently.
