David Munn Quoted in Smart Business Magazine
David Munn, who maintains the legaltech.com site, was interviewed by author Carol Abate for a feature in the May 2001 issue of Smart Business magazine on the use of technology in corporate legal departments entitled "Trim Your Legal Overhead." Munn provided background information for the article as well as several quotes.
Mark Chandler, Senior Director of Worldwide Legal Services and Associate General Counsel of Cisco Systems, was also quoted in the article. Chandler cautions that legal departments need to be thinking about how the Internet can be used by in-house counsel to save time and money. "Legal departments have absolutely no choice," says Chandler.Chandler has three goals in using technology and the Internet:
- Serve clients more effectively;
- Promote a self-service approach to client service, primarily through the use of the company's intranet; and
- Provide more efficient ways to work with outside counsel, including the use of extranets.
The article goes on to discuss the use of online sites for obtaining competitive bids on legal work and other services. It also discusses how online depositions can save the expense and trouble of traveling to depositions in remote locations.
