Founded in 2023 by Michael Stych and  William Boan, Contend emerged from the founders' firsthand experiences with the barriers people encounter when seeking legal advice. Michael, with more than six years in the legal industry at top technology companies like DraftWise and Kira, and William, a lawyer and software engineer, combined their expertise to create a solution that simplifies the legal process. Their shared vision led to the development of Contend, aiming to provide quick, affordable, and accessible legal assistance to those in need. 

Contend's platform utilizes a chat-based interface where users can receive immediate information about their legal options across various areas, including housing, family and employment law. Built by lawyers and legal experts, the AI leverages English & Welsh-specific legal data, ensuring accurate and reliable guidance. The service is designed to be user-friendly, offering personalized assistance without the high costs typically associated with legal consultations.

Since launching, Contend has already answered over 100,000 legal questions, empowering individuals with the clarity and confidence they need to take action. By making legal help more accessible and cost-effective, Contend is tackling a massive, underserved market and reshaping the way legal services are delivered.
