Why We Invested in Skribe

We're excited to announce our investment in Skribe, a company that is redefining the traditional deposition process by modernizing how legal testimony is captured, analyzed, and shared. Skribe is eliminating inefficiencies in the traditional court reporting business model, making legal workflows faster and more cost-effective for attorneys.

The company was co-founded by Karl Seelbach, a seasoned litigator, and Tom Irby, a former owner of a court reporting firm. Karl became increasingly frustrated with how outdated and costly the deposition process was, while Tom recognized the industry's need for innovation after years of running a court reporting firm. Their shared vision led to the creation of Skribe in early 2022, after Covid-19 forced litigators to adopt virtual platforms, creating the perfect environment for disruption. After nearly a decade of discussions, they were ready to address these challenges head-on.

Skribe offers a software-driven approach that dramatically reduces the costs and inefficiencies of traditional depositions. The platform allows attorneys to remotely capture depositions using Zoom or by uploading previous recordings. From there, users can analyze the testimony, search AI-generated transcripts, interact with generative AI, and prepare legal responses. The software’s tools make it easy to create and share media clips for use in trials and legal filings.

The results are staggering. Skribe’s solution is less than half the price of traditional deposition services and delivers results 10x faster, with final transcripts available in about a week. On top of that, it offers 3x the features, giving attorneys a powerful set of tools to streamline their work. This efficiency translates to significant savings in both time and money, making it easier for legal professionals to focus on what truly matters—preparing cases and delivering justice.

At The LegalTech Fund, we are committed to transforming how legal services are delivered, and Skribe’s mission aligns perfectly with that goal. The company’s innovative technology reduces costs and boosts efficiency in the legal system, making deposition testimony more accessible and transparent. By leveraging software and AI, Skribe is poised to redefine the standard for capturing, analyzing, and sharing legal media.

Investing in innovative platforms like Skribe makes sense, especially in an era where data is the backbone of business growth. Similarly, investing in xdr solutions is critical to protect that data and safeguard digital infrastructure. By combining AI-driven insights with robust cybersecurity measures, companies can thrive while minimizing risks. Just as Skribe optimizes content strategies, XDR enhances cybersecurity, providing advanced threat detection and response to protect critical assets. Both investments are about securing the future—whether it’s through better storytelling or stronger defenses.
